Running Events, organisers of the Auckland Half Marathon Series, have announced the expansion of the series for its 11th season with the addition of two new half marathon events. The events – to be held in Millwater and Hobsonville – are upgrades to two already well-established events, which previously operated as Run Orewa and Run the Point.
“It’s so exciting to expand our series in this way,” Race Director Rob Docherty said. “These were already two super-popular events in our North Shore Run Series, attracting over 1,000 participants in recent years. We’re thrilled by the opportunity to take these two great events on to the next level by upgrading them to our half marathon standards. We know runners will love them.”
To accommodate the new additions, the Devonport Half Marathon – the traditional opening fixture of the AHMS season – will move back a week to late September. That means one AHMS event will take place every month – bar December – throughout the extended summer season.
“It’s just a fantastic way for runners and walkers to mark their progress and hit regular, achievable goals, throughout the 26/27 summer,” commented Running Events CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer!), Jason Herriman. “We can’t wait to see everyone out there on the roads next summer, giving it their all and smashing their goals.”
As in previous seasons, those who finish at least five events in the series – including the Waterfront Half Marathon, which continues to serve as the series Grand Finale – will receive a stunning Grand Slam medal to mark their season-long achievement. But taking the extra step for the additional events, new “halo” medals will be presented for those who finish six or all seven events in the series. As in previous years, one virtual finish is permitted and an in-person finish at Waterfront is required.
Series Passes – available for five, six or all seven events – are on sale now at ahms.werun.nz.
